About the major

Advanced Computing Research Major

The Advanced Computing Research Major is a research-oriented program designed to prepare students for graduate studies and strengthen their research capabilities.
During their undergraduate studies, students take advanced major courses while participating in laboratory research under the guidance of a faculty advisor. Through the process of conducting, organizing, and presenting their research, students systematically develop expertise and problem-solving abilities in computing.

  2. Research activities are conducted on a semester basis and may be recognized even if they are not completed consecutively. (Submission of a research activity confirmation form each semester and evaluation on an S/U basis)
  3. Research achievements are limited to official research events recognized by the academic advisor, such as BK seminars, school-hosted seminars, and academic conferences. (Submission of supporting documents for attendance at 3 or more research events)
  4. Students who have completed research activities must submit a research report in thesis format during the graduation semester and present their research results at least once.
    (The academic advisor in charge during the final semester of research activities is responsible, with evaluation conducted on an S/U basis. The presentation may be given orally or as a poster presentation, and may be substituted by an oral or poster presentation at an accredited academic conference.)

Graduate School Pathway Information
  • Students who wish to enter graduate school after fulfilling the graduation requirements should indicate their preferred academic advisor when submitting the research report.
  • The master's admission interview will be waived, and students may switch to an integrated master's-doctoral program after entering the master's program.
  • Graduate courses completed during the undergraduate program may be recognized as part of the required credits in accordance with relevant regulations.
  • Graduate school admission and degree program operation follow the regulations of the graduate school and department.
Recommended Course Completion and Research Stages
  • Students progressively develop graduate-level research capabilities by connecting advanced major studies with research participation during the undergraduate program.
  • The study plan below is recommended and may be adjusted according to each student's research interests and career path.
    • Years 1-2: Acquire foundational major theories and programming competencies
    • Years 2-3: Explore laboratories and identify research areas of interest
    • Years 3-4: Conduct research after assignment to an academic advisor (at least 3 semesters)
    • Year 4: Prepare and present a research report and prepare for graduate school admission
